This is a contractual position with a duration of three (3) years with six (6) months’ probation and is tenable at the KAZA TFCA Secretariat Headquarters in Kasane, Botswana.


The Organisation: The KAZA TFCA Secretariat is the designate entity established under the KAZA Treaty by the KAZA partner countries to manage the day-to-day operations of the TFCA. Its overall mandate is to develop KAZA TFCA into a world-class conservation area and premier tourism destination. This mandate is executed under the guidance of the KAZA partner countries with support from development partners and a consortium of stakeholders.

The main purpose of the position: This is a leadership position and is responsible for the strategic management of KAZA - formulating and implementing strategy, policy and managing the day-to-day operations (financial, human resources and administrative matters) of KAZA.

The responsibilities of the position include:

Coordination and policy implementation:

  • Coordination of activities and programmes associated with the development and management of the KAZA TFCA and its governing structures
  • Serving as the Secretariat for the KAZA structures
  • Promotion of collaboration and cooperation between the KAZA partner countries
  • Formulation of protocols aimed at harmonising natural resources and tourism management strategies.

Programme Development and Implementation:

  • Development and implementation of long-term sustainable strategies that will ensure sustainability of KAZA TFCA
  • Development of strategies that will enable communities to realise pragmatic returns from the KAZA TFCA
  • Coordination and preparation of annual work plans and budgets for KAZA TFCA.

Resource Mobilisation:

  • Undertaking of mobilisation of KAZA strategic resources required to support the development of KAZA TFCA
  • Writing of fundraising proposals and facilitation of mission visits of development partners
  • Creation of opportunities for the corporate society to participate in the development and management of the KAZA TFCA.

Basic requirements:

  • A postgraduate university degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, Conservation Science or any closely related science discipline
  • 15 years’ working experience, of which 10 years should have been at senior management level in an international organisation in the environmental sector within southern Africa
  • Fluency in verbal and written English is a must, whilst knowledge of Portuguese will be an added advantage
  • Computer literacy with good understanding of GIS and vast experience in making written and oral presentations
  • Demonstrable ability to publish work in various media outlets including peer-reviewed journals
  • A valid SADC driver’s licence
  • Preparedness to travel frequently including travel to remote areas.

Remuneration: A package inclusive of salary and benefits is negotiable based on education qualification and experience.
